Red Skies Over Chicago

8 Jan

I’ve never seen a sky quite like this before in Chicago. These photos were taken from our snowless deck at 4:40 pm, January 8. And while today was pretty chilly, you can see that the next few days are hardly wintery.

I’m not sure what about the weather is causing the incredible sunsets, but here’s what Mother Nature had in store for our viewing pleasure tonight…

Hope you enjoy these incredible views!

    Beautiful photos , Judy.
It is ironic that terrible events can cause beauty. Right now the cyclonic fires in Australia are creating plumes that will affect skies everywhere. A number of years ago, when we lived in Palm Springs, Mt Penatubo erupted in the Philippines and a number of days later we had a sunset where a cloudless sky turned completely literally blood red.
In California there are gorgeous sunsets over the ocean. Across the Pacific we experienced strange smog in Beijing that combined industrial smoke with sandstorms off the Gobi desert. I doubt that many Californians are aware that smog travels across the Pacific to bless California with beauty.
Beautiful sunsets should remind us that we are connected with the whole world and all its peoples.
